Hell if I wanted to pay that much I would have bought one of the 3070 for $999 on black Friday.

The circa $1100 paid for my parents RTX3070 is looking very good now!

I got one of MightyApe's 989$ 3070 Palit's; it's starting to look rather decent. Won the silicon lottery with it for once; 2GHz average core speed - straight out of the box, Samsung memory goes up to 8.2Ghz without any gddr voltage hacks, Now if only I can figure out a way to get around nVidia's 113% power limit, it's power limited at ~2.1GHz, would happily run much higher otherwise. Apparently there is 130% limit BIOS out there somewhere, but I've had no luck actually finding it. If anyone got their hands on it, help a bruva out?

PS. Two down sides; backplate is plastic and it lacks a dual bios - flashing BIOS mods is going to be a code brown experience...

Yikes on the nz launch prices of the 3060ti.

Woke up at 3am to see if we would get anything closer msrp and nope.

So went back to bed.

Checked on aus launch too and we are getting boned.

Aud prices from the evga store

$709 xc gaming model

$769 ftw3 ultra model

https://au.evga.com/products/productlist.aspx?type=0&family=GeForce+30+Series+Family&chipset=RTX+3060+Ti

More models from $750 aud here https://www.pccasegear.com/category/193_2145/graphics-cards/geforce-rtx-3060-ti

Aussie is getting pretty good deal tbh, we are getting royally taken gor a ride imo. The cynical part of me is nz stores have inflates price to fall in line with the 3070 over price and they don't want the 3060ti to eat into the 20xx stock they are still trying to move.

When the ps5 has a msrp of $500 usd and is pre-order at jbhifi for $819 nzd which has included gst, shipping, cga etc you know gpu prices here are way out of whack.

Might give it a couple of weeks and if NZ retails don't want to play ball with prices, might gamble and order from overseas from like amazon or newegg if there is stock.

Don't mind waiting for shipping.

I bought the Zotac 3070 in the weekend from Playtech for $999 and don't regret it

We seem to be lucky with stock levels, I'd not expect to be able to by overseas any time soon.

Many stores overseas are reporting their 3060ti stock is more than their 3070, 3080 and 3090 stock on launch combined.  And in NZ we've got plenty of 3070 stock available it seems

The pricing here does seem a bit weird with the overlap between 3060ti and 3070 pricing - $829 - $1,099 for the 3060ti, while we've seen the 3070 as low as $989 up to $1,399.

You'd be mad to buy a high end 3060ti when you can buy a lower end 3070. Many reviews have noted most RTX3070 are within a few FPS of each other so buy what is in stock.

3070s are ridiculously power limited. Even the most stock models run at 2GHz and if you give them extra power will run faster. I haven't seen one that's thermally limited yet, my Palit does a 3hr furmark heatsoak at below 70 degrees without dropping boost clocks.
Only buy the more expensive models if you particularly like the design, bundle deal etc - they will all perform the same. With full MSI mobo chicanery enabled, I can get the power to 117% and the card touching 2.2GHz, but unable to go higher due to power limitations. I'll play with voltage curves, see if I can eek a bit more out, but until we get a vBIOS with unlocked power limits - all models will run pretty much same, I'd imagine:.
They will all boost to around 2GHz and stay there for the duration.
Available memory OC seems to be the distinguishing factor in performance, Samsung chips seem to reach higher speeds than micron with a good performance scaling. But, seems like you're just as likely to get Sammy gddr6 on basic models as you're on the top shelf skus.

They all seem to have reference partner PCBs which have an extra power phase on the core over FE, I wouldn't be surprised if they are aimed at the full GA104 chip and Nvidia is artificially segmenting with vBIOS limits - so that future 3070Ti/super doesn't have the 3070 and 3060ti nipping at its heels.

How can you tell what type of RAM your 3070 has?

GPU-z will report it for one.
Bear in mind that it's the speed the ram can reach that is important; all Samsung gets to +2000 (1k in settings) without any issues, if your micron does the same it's just as good. I'm not seeing much score increase past ~2500 (although I'm topping out at +2700 on stock voltage with my Sammy ICS, so can't speak past that.)

PS. To calculate effective GDDR6 speed from the memory clock that GPU-Z reports, multiply it x8. So, if it says 2000, it's GDDR6 16000. Stock is 14000 iirc.

Ok I did that and I have Samsung. What are you using to OC? I have an app that came with the Zotac card called Firestorm.

I use MSI afterburner, but they all pretty much the same for basic OC needs- until you start adjusting voltage curves the Zotac utility should be fine. First run some bench marks to get default values - Port Royal and Time Spy from 3dmark are typical. You want to make sure you don't get score regression when you OC and record average and peek boost clocks.

In the Zotac utlity:. Adjust the power limit to maximum value, it should be 107-115% available depending on the card - we'd like to be able to go to 130% at least, but we're locked to lower levels right now. Add +1000 to Memory - it should show up 16000 effective or 2000 in GPU-z (you need to refresh GPU-z when you make changes to see them, it's top right corner.)

Run the Benchmark again, look for any artefacting or for score going down - which might indicate too high an OC. Record the values. IF you are getting errors etc, reduce the memory speed 100 at a time till you don't see any. With Sammy chips you will probably be going higher, but this is a value almost everyone seems to get to and a good start. FE cards seem to not be quite as good on memory as partner cards with 15.8GHz being the reported limit instead of 16~17GHz

Back in the Zotac Utility, increase the core/boost clock speed by ~50 - run the benchmarks, repeat increasing by 10 till you see no score or clock improvement. It will probably be in the 100-200 range, if you see artefacting/errors - go back a couple clock steps.

That's your basic OC.

Don't forget to hit apply in the utility when you change one of the values, it won't change the values in the card till then.

After that you need to start playing with voltages curves, fan curves and temp targets - there are plenty of good tutorials on the internet and more than I can cover easily.

Congratulations, you are now into a PC gamer's favourite game: Benchmark :-b

With the 3070, the biggest benefit will be increasing the powerlimit and memory - the card will generally automatically boost to take advantage of the available headroom. YMMV on core clock increases. Seems like you get 80% or so of the benefit by just doing that.

PS. There is an Auto OC scan that you can use, you need to verify its results with benchmarks. On some cards it can be too aggressive on others really timid.

PPS. Zotac's guide

PPPS. FPS OC of FE edition

PPPPS. Palit PCB breakdown when I emailed Buildzoid about it, he pointed out that "the US5650 isn't the Vmem controller" so take that guys analysis with a grain of salt. He also pointed out that "it's definitely possible to hard mod the power limit  since Nvidia uses the same power sensing circuitry on the 20 and 30 series." So we should be able to make a hardware offset to the power limit if that's the only way to go - that's far off in the future, for me, though - I'm delighted with the performance as is and we might yet get a moded vbios to open up the power limit - waayyy to early to break out soldering irons, imho.
