edaw: Dang looks like PB Tech have pushed my ROG Strix 3080 to January 5th, vice November 13th and then December 1st.
I appreciate the global shortage but I really wish they would be as open as Computer Lounge about their consignments.

Hmm, now it has an estimated shipping date of March 4th 2021. Oh boy.
They have stated "There is no ETA for Asus 30 series cards, either 3070, 3080 or 3090 , all base on weekly allocation" so maybe it will come earlier?

You'd think that by March stock availability would be improved and prices come down, can you switch your order to a card in stock? There is a 3070Ti and 3080Ti strongly rumoured to be released around February - they will probably be better value than the first wave of cards. I'd be tempted to just cancel and see what happens if I had to wait 3 months.

I've heard January for the 3080Ti 20GB but nothing solid for the 3070Ti, date or specs... it will come eventually as there's a performance gap between the 3070 & 3080 to fill... ie. it actually makes more sense than a 3060Ti does lol.

Also the entry level cards finally appear late January / early February based off the new GA106 die, 3050Ti & 3060.

Given how quickly 3070 stocks are reported dropping around the world, my guess is it's being replaced by 3060ti - it let's Nvidia harvest more imperfect cores and the board partners can fill the 3070 point with upmarket 3060tis, both cards would run much faster if Nvidia relaxed the power limit, so highly overclocked 60tis with built up coolers and permissive vBIOS can fill the spot of 70s. It let's the board partners push up their margins back up, something they have been, reportedly, very unhappy with nVidia about; kill two birds with one stone. Then, once yields are up in Sammie's fab, they can make a 70ti from full GA104s as a refresh. My 2c.

Just a heads up for those that ordered the new graphics cards expecting to get watchdogs...

IF you ordered and paid for the card BEFORE the promotion finished, you CAN still get a Watchdogs key..

I ordered and paid for my 3080 on day of release but didn't get my card until last week, and after talking to asus facebook they told me to contact rog_forum@asus.com with proof of date of purchase (invoice/receipt etc)

I did this making sure to point out I bought the card on day of release etc, and today I got an email from them along with a Key to Watchdogs :) :)

RTX 3060 12GB announced by nVidia. Its a weird one with that much ram & 3.5K cuda cores. MSRP $US 329, coming in February.

People are joking already it’ll be the miners choice of card with that memory, nvidia somehow decided that 6GB wasn’t enough on a 192bit card.

12GB ram is just way too much for a 1080p card.  I guess it does sound attractive to a certain market though.

The card doesn't seem that much better than the 2060.  It looks like most people can skip the 30 series if they have a recent enough GPU, with the way the price is going and also stock availability issues.  Don't think any of the rumoured 3070 Ti/Super and 3080 Ti/Super will be accessible until Q3/Q4 even if announced.

It'll be attractive for 3D modelling, Photoshop, etc. I bet it's a twin of the Quadro variant. With 192 bit bus they had to go either 3, 6 or 12 GB. With AMD having much more VRAM at same price point, nVidia couldn't go with 6. Guess they played themselves by trying to save pennies on memory bus traces.

I was going to upgrade my 8700K, but I think I'll overclock it to 5Ghz and wait for Alderlake. Wondering if my 8700K with 32GB memory and 650W Corsair Platinum Platinum PSU will handle a 3080 without causing all sorts of bottlenecks?

Also appears that the RTX3080 16GB were for mobile parts! 100% glad I didn't hold off in November (when i got my 3080) waiting for these rumored cards.

Depends on which games you play, if you're playing 4k AAA, you'll be GPU bound; if you're playing 1440p Fortnite or other esport stuff, maybe - but, will it be enough to impact your experience significantly, that's your call. Quite few YT channels did videos on points where you're getting CPU bound with various cards.

Seems nothing significant should be fine gaming at 1440p with a 3080 on my 8700K

Now to wait for the price to drop a bit.

The problem would be the PSU - the 3080 apparently sometimes power spikes and that may not be sufficient to handle those spikes

No, that's different from the 3080 Ti which is 20GB and being launched in February. The 3080 Ti was originally intended for launch yesterday but nVidia decided to push to Feb after the pressure came off from AMD's epic supply fail. This was quoted from multiple sources back in December at the same time as they accurately predicted yesterday's 12GB 3060 launch.
