Regs:
wsnz: With the variety of devices such as this on the market now, it's a real pitty the TV manufacturers don't just produce dumb panels thereby reducing cost, and we can enhance them to smartTV status ourselves!

I wish auto manufacturers would do the same.  install a screen and generic hardware into the center console with a generic API for the auto functions, and just let you drop in an SD card with an OS.

should I expect to unlock RACE MODE with the right key?

So this is selling now in the US, well the Windows version is. Who will be distributing it in NZ and when? Does anyone know if any retailers are taking advance orders?

Of the distributors we deal with, Ingram Micro will be the obvious to carry these.  Synnex may also get access to sell them.

I just had a quick Google and this review was not encouraging:

Hmm I just skimmed it but... half the article complains about the single USB port not being enough for both a mouse and keyboard at the same time (something that's easily enough solved with a wireless mouse\keyboard combo surely?) and that the wifi\bluetooth don't work well together.  The other half complains about the fact that it doesn't game well. Neither of these are deal breakers for how I would want to use it.  I'll wait for more thorough reviews.

EDIT: This looks more thorough and I trust anandtech more:

Indeed it doesn't look like a great option to purchase in its current form, but I look forward to the second generation.

At those prices I'd rather a chromebox.

lost all respect for that reviewer when he started complaining about it requiring a keyboard and mouse and they required usb ports, what a shocker!

I looked around for these mini computer sticks to see what is available and to my horror there are about 1000+ different kinds, (ie the chinese clones) ... i gave up searching. will wait till an amazing product comes out that will play anything (1080p mkv format) my network windows computer throws at it via wifi streaming.

or if someone can point me to one. budget: minimum
