Not sure if this goes here or mobile computers, but this is close enough.
Thought the NUC was just too big and cumbersome and streaming was too finicky, well Intel have the device for you

Full Windows, 2 GB ram, 32 GB drive, quad core atom all in a package not much bigger than the chromecast. Looks really cool. Price should be around $200 NZ as well if it works out right from the $150 USD.

Loving Intel's push to interesting computers.

Looks like it will have a microSD slot too so you can supplement the tiny internal storage.
Toms hardware review.
There may even be a super minimal one with just 8GB of storage running linux too.

Could the first person to see these in the country or on Amazon ask for the thread to be unlocked.  I can think of 2 business uses for these immediately.

Anyone know if they will do HDMI-CEC so I can control it with the TV remote? (Like my RPi does)

With the variety of devices such as this on the market now, it's a real pitty the TV manufacturers don't just produce dumb panels thereby reducing cost, and we can enhance them to smartTV status ourselves!

I wish auto manufacturers would do the same.  install a screen and generic hardware into the center console with a generic API for the auto functions, and just let you drop in an SD card with an OS.

That sounds like a recipe for complete disaster, and one I will bet right now will not happen any time soon. Imagine lawsuits cropping up due to "hacks" that cause issues whilst people are driving, distractions etc. No way could an Auto manufacturer control enough of the values to not guarantee impacting the driver experience/concentration.

if it's plugged directly into the car, they would become partially responsible.

In what way was the streaming finicky ? I thought the NUC's were the bee's knees for a HTPC /  streaming ?

May have to  re-evaluate my options if the NUC's are going to be  a problem ....

Wasn't really aimed at NUC units. More at issues with chromecasts even though that is more wifi strength and hard coded dns related. Full windows means easy to change settings, dns, vpn etc.

I have a NUC running Windows 7, absolutely no issues with it. A great wee thing! It's hooked up to our newly purchased TV now. The older smaller TV has retired to our bedroom so I'll be looking for a device to use on it. The Intel Stick looks just the thing for it! Can't wait!
