One question I haven't seen the answer to yet:

Why are there 4 LAN ports on the back?

to connect to 4 different devices or to 4 different networks. or to link aggregate them to allow faster transfer if your switch supports it

Thx @jase2985 , my switch doesn't support aggregation, but I did have the 2 Drobo NICs setup for 2 different paths to the router.

Not sure if that actually made any difference.

I hope when this gets to 100% that I have more than 79.6MB to play with.

You mean I can start copying data back over already?!

Now I feel a bit silly.

Well I installed 5 drives that were already carrying 20+TB of data from the Drobo, and I knew they would have to be wiped and formatted as part of the installation and setup and I just presumed that was what was happening.

The manual didnt seem to have anything covering what to expect if you were populating with used drives, other than that they would be wiped.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Using Teracopy to copy data from Drivepool to DS1621 (connected to same switch).

It's snappy enough at the copying bit, but quite slow at the verifying bit, which I guess relates to the read speed.

So 1 week in and about 86% (19.7 of 22.7TB) transferred so far.

Might knock this b^%%$^& off this weekend!

I would have just built my own.
Using unraid or TrueNAS you can build a hell of a much more powerful system.

Just my 2 cents 😀

yes you could have but then it will use more power, probably take up more space and be overkill. different strokes for different folks. SOmetimes its just easier to guy something off the shelf

Indeed @jase2985 , my needs could not justify the time and effort involved in DIY, or a more complex or functional system.
