So Mac can't scale text to a standard resolution monitor? Sounds... daft.

OSX is deigned for 5K Retina (about 220 ppi). It scales exactly to 6K and 8K but text tends to look blurry at lower resolutions because the letters and icons are intended to be pixel perfect at the 5K, 6K, 8K Resolution and at lower resolutions they are not displayed accurately enough.

That is why the iMac was 5K, the Studio Display is 5K and the Pro XDR display (the $10,000 one!) is 6K.

There are reasonably substantial rumours that a new 'Studio Display Pro' in 6K with 120Hz Pro Motion and mini LED will be out next year together with a 7K or 8K update of the Pro XDR.

To be honest I write quite a bit of code.. and 1440p is pretty much my preferred resolution.

I have not really got into 4k.. but 1440 i can game on. Have a monitor with a "decent" refresh rate and nice colours.

I rekon you can get some sharp looking 24" 1440p screens. Although I work on 32" curved 1440p monitors.

My recommendation is to go and LOOK at them. make sure the colours/contrast and refresh rates is what you want. Its also worth mentioning I would spend extra budget on a good screen.

From the description you mentioned about what you want. That Dell should be perfect.

Yeah it's pretty good. I think it's almost too large given my sitting distance as my desk isn't super deep, it's not bad, but I wouldn't go wider without a bracket to mount it on the wall and I might wall mount this one. 25" is good for home, I can do windows side by side if I want to, but I usually just have one big window. The Dell software lets you pin windows to different parts of the screen, but that would generally make them too small.
