Jase2985:

how can they justify the prices on these?

Retail price on AIB cards in the US start at $599USD (~$832NZD), here they are starting at $1799. i get shipping, i get GST etc but its over double the price.

Someone is making a killing on these.

If you can actually buy cards at 599 you should grab a pallet.

You can't actually buy cards at that price unless you are incredibly lucky.

The problem exists along the entire value chain. The AIBs aren't selling them for 599 and everyone is making good margins.

Nvidia's MSRP is not indicative of the current market, it's just a suggested number, the AIBs are setting their wholesale price above that and retailers are adding in their margins. It may look like NZ retailers are creaming it but it's not the entire picture.

Retail US $ is and has been far worse then other countries pricing, some places were selling 3090s at $3-4k USD, now do the conversion on that and see whose getting shafted more.

but when the likes of newegg, microcenter and bestbuy were selling them for the $599, they wont be making a loss on that.

So you're talking about (in our neck of the woods) the mythical unicorn FE cards not AIB cards? because they are selling AIB cards well over that MSRP

What's your point? That Nvidia can sell a card for their OWN msrp but AIBs can't?, AIB cards generally have better cooling thus better performance, AIBs use their own pcbs, and coolers etc the only common denominator is the die. Is your gripe with retailers like CL or PBtech or AIB manufacturers, I'm genuinely unsure. I have no evidence to suggest that AIBs are marking up for profit but I do think they're taking advantage of the obvious supply and demand issue we have, but who isn't right down the whole supply chain.

Nvidia for example are charging 71% more for a 3080ti FE at only around 10% more performance over a 3080 FE... how does that work? (besides the obvious)

Try getting a FE card here because you can't. you'll most likely luck out if you tried through international channels too.
