Oh and I asked why we pay so much, got told this -

Hi Scott,

Everywhere in the world besides the US, the price of the GTX1080 is considerably more expensive. It all has to do with demand. The supplier’s in the US go through so much stock, that they are able to survive off a 1-2% margin.
Here in NZ we aren’t even moving 5% of what they are moving in the US. It’s a completely different market.

Regards,

that price is huge compared to the $379USD they expect it to go for, add 15% gst which is about $640NZD then add shipping so say $750 tops to get here

no wonder people end up buying from overseas

The RX 480 might just squeeze inside the GST threshold for importing! oops sorry this is an Nvidia thread ... Import 2 of them and you have half a 1080!

Scotty1986:

Been told by computer lounge that the 1070 with be around $1099

The GTX1070 will likely be priced between $999.95 and $1099.95 in New Zealand.
Most GTX980Ti cards are already listed below cost, so it is unlikely that the price will be reduced further.
There may be the odd special, but you’ll have to keep an eye on our mailer.

Regards,

wow at that price might as well import from overseas yourself and pay around 700-800 nzd including GST

Using the What's my Duty calculator on the Customs website you'd be looking about this much.

That does not include shipping of course so just a rough idea

I think 1070 should be in the high 600s for the "board partner" cards

The board partner cards will come out about a month after the release of the founders ones. I'm keen to pick one of these up too. Might just get my sister to grab one for me next time she is in the United States. NZ$1099 is far too expensive compared to board partner cards at $379 USD. She goes regularly so if it's faulty she can get back to the shop.

Judging by the price of the 1080 here, 1070 founders edition should be around $999, expensive but with the cost of the 1080 here, I'd be surprised if it was less. Any more than that, and they're just taking the piss. Honestly couldn't care less for their 'reasons'. Even $999 is ridiculous, we rarely get f*cked over this much. With my cousin coming over in October, I'll get him to bring one over if that is the case.

A grand for the 1070? Ouch. Sticking with my 970 then I guess. Might have to look at going back to amd given what I've read about their new card, and keen to see what higher end cards they put out.

The RX 480 is only worth moving to from a 970 if you need to use less power, which is unlikely. The 1070 and 1080 are your only options for reasonable gains going up.

If you read the post he alludes to maybe getting the RX 490 (yet to be announced)
