Thanks OP, this thread was useful. - Same situation with a new build. 

 

After much deliberation I went with the 1440p version: ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACS 27" QHD 180Hz $459

 

Its been great using it the last few days, made me realise.. A: I need a larger desk for 27" 😂, B: I dont like my screen too bright, Instantly turned down to 25.

 

 

 

 

On another note,

 

I was very tempted to roll the dice with this $699 1440p OLED: Samsung Odyssey OLED G5 27" QHD 180Hz.

 

 

its new there arent any reviews, but due to DisplayPort 1.2/hdmi 2.0 it can only handle 144hz of the total possible 180hz on 1440p.

Yea that oled can get 1440p/165Hz if it uses HBR2 but since it supports HDR10 it will get less. Probably one of those cases were it can get 180Hz if you use chroma subsampling. Quite a waste of a panel, it only gets 200nits max brightness.
