reddragon: No disagreement. Mozy and others are great for home users. And yes something is better than nothing.

When it comes to SME's I'm just saying look at what NZ providers can offer and don't just look at Price.
Look at the different features that can be provided. It totally depends on what each business is looking for.

I use Mozy Pro on my Windows Servers, creating SQL database backups. Actually, it's what drives the Geekzone backups...

I looked at some local offerings, and unless things changed in the last six months, the feature range couldn't compare to the Mozy offering.

i used to do online backups of all the company data to a NZ based online backup company. i was paying some $300 per month to backup around 30GB. a couple of times they 'fell off the internet'. one day they sent me an email to say that they were closing down in 2 weeks.

i'm not sure how many of the current NZ based online backup companies have been around for any length of time - or even who, or how many there are. Mozy, and others, have been around for a while and that certainly adds weight when choosing a provider.

no point in choosing a full service company and paying a premium if you then have to shift everything again in a few months when they fold.

Well Regs you certaintly got ripped off there.

Give you some idea our prices are least 3 times cheaper than you were charged.

Once Again (Not trying to sell our product) but!!!

Our product can definately backup all the products as mozy can. SQL, Exchange. Log backup. continous. Synthetic Full Backups. Also will have in the near future the best way possible of backing up PST files.(only backing up the new emails. Not the changed part of the pst.)

O and freitasm can you please help me out by letting me know what features the NZ companies were lacking? So I can know what we are missing and if so how to make our company better. (Just out of interest. Our company has been around for well over 2 years) No likely hood of closing down.

I'm interested to know who your company is - if you're uncomfortable putting it out there, please PM me.

What sort of business continuity insurance do you have? ie, if you close down, or it becomes uneconomic to continue, how long will the service continue to run for funded by an insurance policy? Two years is nothing as far as a company goes.

Is your service aimed only at companies, or may it be economic for personal use as well?

Cheers - N

i'm sure our pricing from the other company would be at least three times cheaper if i bought the service *today*.... those prices were from about 5 years ago, when most people hadnt even heard of online backups, and when most people were paying more for the MB/s to shif the data than the cost of the storage to hold it...

also, a company that has been around for 2 years doesnt exactly strike me as 'rock solid' - more as a 'startup'.  the company i dealt with had been around for longer than 2 years too...

While this is all very interesting, it's completely off topic and at this point it's become a war of words.

When companies participate around here we rather not have an attitude of "our product is better than the one you are using".

I'm locking this thread.
