darylblake: Yeh I know. They out of stock but same as the reference card. http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=08G-P4-5180-KR Only want $609 USD. Dunno what it would cost to import though.

Does EVGA's store accept NZ issued credit cards? I might just have to buy it from them directly, ComputerLounge listed the Strix GTX1080 for $1499.

Not sure, looking at their facebook page, theres customers asking questions whether they're still open since last year. Looks dodgy imo.

I read on GP Forums that the owner apparently parallel imports. Have no way of verifying whether this is true or not. But based on the website and the lack of even a phone number and a proper entity name (it's not obvious whether Techworld is a trading name of an individual or whether it is a company name), I wouldn't risk my money.

I don't know if I can still wait another month using my GTX 670 but the 1070 prices are so overpriced

New Egg. For $619 USD.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487246&ignorebbr=1&cm_re=PPSSVYJXPPLKEI-_-14-487-246-_-Product \

You can buy this, (when they get stock back).

They charge about $79 USD in shipping but they DO ship to NZ.

The customs charges according to whats my duty is about $140 in GST and $50 in duty fees.

So roughly about ~$1150 at todays exchange rates. It may be worth the effort.

I probably wont bother upgrading now. The GTX 780 is running everything at 1080p really really well. If i needed to go 1440 or 4K then I would consider it, but I will need to replace the screen first.

Just a heads up for anyone considering importing you void your rights for protection under the consumer guaranties act.
It's usually not a huge deal with low end inexpensive goods as its not much of a loss if something goes wrong. But for new high end electronics it might not be worth the risk. What if you receive a DOA unit. Or it craps out in a few months or has some unforeseen issues due to being a relatively new model.

I recently had an issue with a high end Lenovo laptop I imported (2k+ cost) Still under warranty so I thought it was fine. Contacted Lenovo and was told they don't service intentional warranties for items imported and I couldn't send it back to the states. Was left out of pocket with a dead machine. Not saying all companies don't So it just pays to be aware before you decide to import anything. The increase in local prices could be worth the protection you receive.

EVGA has Global warranty, however it doesn't mean you can send it to the local distributor in NZ to get it fixed. When my 980 FTW crapped out, I had to pay $50 to get it sent to Taiwan, they sent me back a replacement few days later with shippings paid for. With a significant saving of $300 compared to the local pricing you can afford to send it back and forth 6 times no problem.

GTX1080 available to backorder from Ascent for $948 - http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?itemID=438168

But who knows when it'll actually be available...

Given that it's not worth much any more, would it be worth leaving my old GTX670 in the machine purely as a PhysX "co-processor" or is there little point?

I wouldn't bother. I would sell it and see what you can get for it. You might get $150. People will still be able to game on that card, so people building a budget gaming machine might want to pick it up.

that has to be a typo, the rest of their 1080's range from about $1250 - 1550

even at a purchase price of $569usd it comes to about $1000 including shipping and all import fees with out any markup on it

It appears that card is a so called "budget" version of it, widely guessed as intended to be cheaper than even the Founders Edition. So there is a possibility that it will be materially cheaper than the current aftermarket cards (and not available for a long while). But this much cheaper? Yeah I also doubt it.

It's probably a 1070 they might have put the wrong description on it.

Hmm I have 3 of the Korean Apple Display Panels (Catleap). One of them takes HDMI, the other two take DVI (D I think) and all the new cards I have found, have 1 DVI, 1 HDMI, and 3 DP which I suspect means I am out of luck unless I want at least 1 new screen?
