darylblake: It's probably a 1070 they might have put the wrong description on it.

And the wrong part number?

Hmm I have 3 of the Korean Apple Display Panels (Catleap). One of them takes HDMI, the other two take DVI (D I think) and all the new cards I have found, have 1 DVI, 1 HDMI, and 3 DP which I suspect means I am out of luck unless I want at least 1 new screen?

Display port to DVI adapter?

Very hit and miss with anything beyond a basic 1080p 60Hz panel I found. Even a pricy active one wouldnt go past 60Hz on a friends setup with 2 screens that will do 120Hz on DVI just fine.

From what I understand it's because dp to dl dvi adapters generally target the bare minimum spec, whereas running your monitor past 80hz goes beyond what the components are rated for. Normally I think the pixel clock cap is like 370mhz? Whereas the 120hz 1440 is like 470.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

GTX1080 available to backorder from Ascent for $948 - http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?itemID=438168

But who knows when it'll actually be available...

Given that it's not worth much any more, would it be worth leaving my old GTX670 in the machine purely as a PhysX "co-processor" or is there little point?

I e-mailed Ascent asking whether they have made a mistake and when they expected stock to arrive. Here is their reply:

Hi There

Our supplier is expecting stock early-mid July on the new NVIDIA cards, but due to high worldwide demand, stock and delivery dates are subject to change without notice. Backordering is essential if you wish to secure stock. Price remains the same at this point.

Hope this helps!

The staff member further confirmed (after I requested for a confirmation that it is a 1080):

Hi There

As far as we know, absolutely

I hope for Ascent's sake that she is right because if you have been alerted to the possibility of an error and then confirmed that it isn't AND later tries to duck out of the deal, they might not have as much luck as Harvey Norman did last time.

From what to what?

Edit: Scrolled up - oh, nevermind.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

DisplayPort is an abomination. If you can get something with HDMI outputs then they're less likely to give you issues going to DVI.

None of the 1070's I have seen have more than 1 DVI-D and 1 HDMI Port. HDMI doesn't support 1440P natively. You can MAKE it do it with Custom Resolutions, but it's kludgy.

To be fair, I've probably just had bad luck with it, spent way too much time messing about with (probably cheap) adapters as DP isn't electrically compatible with HDMI or DVI so needs conversion circuitry, all sorts of video issues with it on the benches.

I am now extremely tempted to get the founders edition 1070 for 899 NZD even though the board partners have slightly higher clock speeds and better thermals

It'll only be another few months though, won't it? I can wait. Although, I too am tempted :-D

Knew that was too good to be true. No longer being advertised.
