That BIOS only fixes the Managment Engine vulnerabilities with no performance issues.

Kernal Memory will require another BIOS and OS patch, and will have some slowdowns.

Anecdotally my main desktop PC (Windows 10) has had the OS patch, and its crashed twice since, when I cant remember the last time it ever crashed before the patch.

I cant blame the patch for certain, and its been very hot in the middle of summer here right now.

I have been told by @freitasm that this is not the fix for the Intel Kernel Memory Vulnerability this update is for something different.

Against who? And for what?

A problem has been identified, and is being fixed.

Are you being serious? Against Intel for a bug which cannot be fixed without a performance hit.

Would you be so cavalier if you bought a car for 50K 2 weeks ago, and the manufacturer said they discovered a bug that couldn't be fixed properly, but as a work around it would stop the car reaching 100KM/h? To make it worse, they couldn't tell you yet how much slower you would be allowed to go, but the potential range was a max speed of 66KM/h through to 92KM/h?

Nope, I didn't think so.

I don't know if the fix will slow the car down in normal day to day driving.
I only evidence I've seen so far suggest if the section of road has an incline of 12 deg, the air temp is 25, I have 3 passengers, and my elbow resting on the door, there may be a noticeable slow down.

Plus is the bug with the car or the road surface or how we drive it.

Until there is more information, don't know who to sue or what for.

Since updating the Windows 7 DEV VM I started getting the Font errors as posted in the previous reply.

Got fed up last night and upgraded the VM to Windows 10. I didn't do it before because I have a couple of applications that failed under Windows 8 during tests but hey, database management is more important...

Surprisingly those same applications worked with no problems on Windows 10. The only exception is that I am not able to do remote connections to IIS. No big deal, can use another Windows Server for this.

Update took about 45 minutes. The irritating thing is, as usual, Windows 10 installing all those crappy games. If you're running Windows 7 Pro and upgrade to Windows 10 you'd expect not to have those installed. Never mind.

Font error now is gone. Another Windows 7 machine gone from this world.

So we are saying, don't patch my car and potentially drop the HP to 132 - 184hp from 200hp as I will risk my credit cards being flung out of my car into the hands of a random stranger that I didn't notice standing on the corner, who happens to be an international cyber criminal, rather than an honest person. How far does this rabbit hole go?

Just installed a new BIOS/firmware to my HP EliteBook and it seems all good now - at least on this laptop. Wife's Folio is older so might have to wait a bit longer.

Worked before on Windows 7. No big deal as I have a monitoring server that I can use for this - I rather not work directly on the IIS/SQL servers when possible.

I installed the bios update a few day's ago. haven't noticed any slowdowns gaming.
