freitasm: Yeah, I've mentioned the no-DKIM on personal plans before. You need at least Office 365 Exchange Online.

Yep, this issue has been around for a while.  Going back to when they added the custom email support with GoDaddy domain reg.

gzt: I have not had this notification yet. I have only one account running at this time. I wonder if that's a factor. Maybe just a staggered rollout.

I got my first (family domain) this morning. Haven't decided what do to about it.

Still waiting for the other, a  non-profit. I understand non-profits can get a free version but when I've looked into it in the past it looks like they need US proof of status. Will probably need further digging.

It's not just free G Suite users being screwed. Early G Suite paid users are also getting an ultimatum to move to Workspace (for a price increase of ONE HUNDRED PERCENT per user!) or lose access to those accounts too.

For not for profits, you have to register with Techsoup NZ. Interface is a touch clunky but it's fairly straightforward. You generate a token in Techsoup which Google accepts no problems.

Thanks for that (does sound vaguely familiar) - will give it a try when I next feel like doing volunteer work 😀

Google seems to be looking into personal use vs business with maybe (hopefully) a better solution to follow

https://www.androidpolice.com/google-surve-free-legacy-g-suite/

Link in the last paragraph, this only works if you are logged into the administrator account otherwise the link says "Sign in to an administrator account (doesn't end in gmail.com)."

Thanks @davidcole for the heads up.

A family version of Workspace would be great. As well as hopefully costing less, supporting things like the YouTube Music family plan would be great (which Workspace/G Suite currently doesn't).

There are a lot of family / personal options that don't work in Workspace. Google One, Google Family are reasons to hold on to a @gmail.com account

So what you're saying is "this is a way for Google to monetise Gmail in a way they currently don't"?

Frankly I'm surprised they haven't gone down this road already then.

Email o' pending doom just arrived.

Current plan is to start transitioning down these accounts - reducing the number of special purpose accounts and one use aliases. I'll probably end up paying for at least another year, but aiming to reduce the required spend to the bare minimum. And hope (as others have said) for some kind of better transition path to emerge.

I’m not. It looks like the ever stricter privacy data protection laws are making further monetary exploitation of personal data more difficult and users now simply have to pay for the former 'free' service themselves (because it never was really ‚for free’). Bigtech certainly does a lot for data security, but data security is not the same as privacy data protection.

Ok Guys, i am a little lost here with it

So i got G suite when it was free and have used it as a family domain, we have only really used it for personalised email addresses and it hasn't been used for anything much, however my Kids apps and devices are all tied to these email accounts,

So my questions are

if I cancel my G-suite and host the email elsewhere do the apps break?,

would they get locked out of their devices etc?

Thanks in advance,
