I recall a while back there was a free email to sms gateway, <number>@smsfree.com or something similar.

Can anyone remember what it is?

I wouldn't bother... most of the overseas ones have delivery problems. Just when you want that critical message to get through- it will fail!

use a local provider and pay the 8c to 20c per message and get some confidence that your message will be delivered. www.bulletin.net is one we often use.
