Hi, I am wanting to upgrade the video card (preferably 2GB) in my desktop. I have an ASUS P5P41D Motherboard and currently ATI HD4850 graphics card. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks

What's your price range? I recently upgraded a friend's PC with a Radeon 7850 2GB, and I can safely say it's significantly faster than a 4850 since I had one before I upgraded to a 7770 and it is s sizable upgrade.
If you're sure you PSU and Motherboard will run it (It's PCi E 3 but will work with a PCi E 2 Board) then you can pick one up here http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentsearch.asp (If you're in New Zealand) for around $400.

A cheaper but less powerful $200ish option would be the GTX 550Ti - http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=16584

Or the Radeon 7770 (Which I have paired with a Core i5 and runs everything I've tried) - http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentsearch.asp

I
hope you find what you're looking for :)

What is you price range? Also any reason you are looking for a 2gb board? 1gb is plenty unless you are running at very high resolutions.

My current video card is 1gb and sometimes I like to watch full hd movies while I play games (I get very bored just playing games). SD quality clips run fine but skips during HD material. Got plenty of RAM so that's no problem.  Not worried about price just that the card is reliable. Cheers

A 7850 would do the trick but if price really isn't a barrier then there is always the 7950, 7970, GTX 670 or GTX 680 options.

just make sure your power supply can cope with an upgrade, biggest drawback for most people when trying to upgrade is there power supply.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

I imported an EVGA GTX670 FTW which is clocked at the same speed as a GTX680 but for about $100 less. Got it off ebay and even if I had been pinged for GST (they don't appear to have charged me surprisingly) it still would've been $100 cheaper than buying it in NZ, but obviously I took the risk that it wouldn't be faulty.

It's a reasonably good value card.

The AMD 7770 is excellent value though, it's almost completely silent, uses very little power, and gets pretty reasonable framerates. It'll run happily with only a 400W powersupply, although you should probably have at least a 450W just in case.

Interesting combination of uses, I would suggest that its not entirely unlikely that similar things would occur using any card simply because of fairly inconsistent resource usage while gaming, But the 7850 is a very nice card and sounds like it should cover your needs well.

I would be weary of anything in the 77 series as they are not known for Handling DX9 well, Playing any older games or newer DX9 games (There are a few out there) could be problematic.

They handle dx9 just fine, sure a nvidia card may get a few extra frames on dx9 but when you're talking about 100+fps anyways it doesnt matter.

I was just meaning that the AMD 7770 and 7750 are known for not handling dx9 as well as later DirectX variants, I personally favor AMD myself but if dx9 games are what someone intends to primarily play then perhaps tracking down a 6850 or something would be a better bet than a 77 series card.

And there are a select few more recent games that are based off dx9.
