I recently sent an anonymous email to my employer via a fake hotmail address, apparently the boss has a friend who is a tech for Chorus, can the email be tracked to my home address?, my ISP is Telstraclear.

The technician at Chorus would be in breach of the Privacy Act if s/he disclosed any information without judicial order.

So the tech can easily access that info, my home address etc?

I just sent myself an email from Hotmail and had a look at the headers.  Here's the line you potentially should be worried about:

X-Originating-IP: [144.198.44.26] (numbers changed, obviously)

At the very least, anyone with a little bit of technical know-how will probably be able to track down your IP address to your ISP.  If you have a non-static IP address, then it's a little bit more difficult (but not impossible) to determine who the user was that connected at the time the email was sent - as Mauricio has stated, though, it would require a judicial order to unlock the ISP records.

Nothing is really -that- anonymous.

The email was not malicious or anything like that, it was just in regards to a staff member being drunk whilst at work, thanks again for putting my heart at rest.

So only the ISP has the physical home address, personal details etc??, which in turn means the Chorus tech can't access that private info??
