I'm looking at some Chrome App's which come with the following declarations

This extension can access:

Your data on all website's
Your tabs and browsing activity

They seem common to even some of the most popular app's.

My questions is - does this mean the installed app can take all your web-search data and send it away somewhere or does it just mean the app needs to access the data so it can do its job properly.

I'm worried that the app creator will have open access to my web browsing data.

From my understanding yes Chrome/google collect all your browsing data for "Marketing Purposes". Basicly allowing targeted ads to what you have searched for.

Even with Gmail this is the case if you talk about a particular topic in an email then the ad above your inbox will reflect this topic.

I recently install AVG to use there new inbuilt addon which actually lets you know what sites are monitoring your activity at any given time. Google and Facebook are the companies most interested in what you are up to.
