OK - Once again I've nicely offered to help a local sort out a small issue (Install Office 2010 on her laptop and set up her email) and it's turned into a drama...

Setup of office went ok...

Turning to Outlook...

I've set up the pop account (pop.vodafone.co.nz & smtp.vodafone.co.nz) - entered her username, password and so on - Outlook does the test... no problem... Awesome right? Er... No...

This install sends emails - not a problem. But it will not receive. It says that it is checking email, there are no errors but we get no emails... Strange.

I've checked that the send and receive is working correctly (you know where you can check what the send and receive does), I've reinstalled the account, I've disabled the Anti-Virus (Avast) and I've installed all the updates from Windows Update...

So - Any suggestions... I'm kinda looking (yet again) like an idiot... A befuddled idiot!

It shouldn't make any difference, but tried pop3.vodafone.co.nz instead (although both resolve to the same server IP)?

Check your Antivirus email settings perhaps?

Talking about Avast... It will proxy your email connections to run a scan on every email sent/received. Disabled Avast COMPLETELY and test again.

Hi Dave,

I've set up Office 2010 on two computers in the last week or so with no problems at all.  Both had Xtra and Windows Live accounts. It all went smoothly though I did import the .pst files from the old machines which both had been using Office 2003.  Perhaps this might help if there is an old .pst file to use.
