I have to return a hard drive with bad sectors so want to completely erase it, can you recommend some good software, preferably DoD standard, that might be free also.

Anything to run within Windows? was hoping to plug the drive in via a USB caddie

The USB caddie should be recognised by dban.

You could also try Eraser - http://eraser.heidi.ie
This runs within Windows.
