I need advice on choosing a new GFX card. My GeForce 8500GT has given up the ghost and needs a replacement. I am overwhelmed by the choice out there and am unsure what GFX cards would suit my needs/existing hardware.

First off my existing system is

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6420 @ 2.13GHz
Memory (RAM)4.00 GB
Graphics Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Family
Gaming graphics 256 MB
Primary hard disk 381GB Free (462GB Total)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

My needs are to play my HD movie files, play Diablo 3 and possibly having a crack at 3D gaming.
I only need DVI-I out to my existing monitor but was thinking of having HDMI out for the future too.

If I can find out what the top and bottom ends of the GFX cards I can run, I will choose 1 by price from there.

Any nVidia card with a 5 or 6 at the start of its model number. The more expensive it is the faster games will go, but 2D performance will be near identical.

I'd been looking around at graphics cards a fair amount as I'm going to buy one, and if I was in your shoes I'd pick either the HD7770 or the HD7850 depending on your budget (although if you've got the cash you could spend even more.... HD7950! But nah, you don't seem to be looking for that much power in your GPU?).

Assuming you are playing at 1920x1080 resolution or less the best bang for buck is at $350ish with a Radeon 7850 or Geforce 560 Ti imo.
