I checked my data stats with NetLimiter 3 and my present AV seems to use a lot of data, but no where as much as my previous AV, is this normal or is NetLimeter wrong or counting the data downloaded by other programs being scanned by the AV as AV dowloads in NetLimiter??

Here's a chart of present AV UnThreat->

Here's a chart of prevoius AV Avast->

just above each graph he names them. New -> "UnThreat", Old -> Avast.

To be honest, the graphs cannot be easily compared, due to the time scales, but doing the math suggests that they're both fairly similar, if anything, UnThreat is probably better wrt usage.

edit: oh - OP says that... I guess it depends on the software used, and how it does updates.

The stats for 2013 is Unthreat AV which I installed recently after reading about it in this forum, (UnThreat is my AV at moment)

The stats for Aug/Sep 2012 is Avast when I first noticed the huge data from NL3 and just uninstalled it and put MSE in as they are free and did not worry me.

I was sitting at PC today and noticed Comodo's firewall animation telling me something was going on, so checked Comodo and it said Unthreat was downloading about 100mb, so that's when I checked NetLimiter 3 and here I am now.

Moved to correct forum as "antivirus" is "Desktop Computing" not "Windows".

I cannot believe either of those two summaries. Way too much data on the graph even if each were doing full engine updates.

Do either of these products include firewall functionality? Maybe netlimiter sees some traffic coming through those products and assumes incorrectly the source. Google might reveal similar reports and an explanation.

No, have sep Comodo firewall, from what I have googled is data is being scanned and NL3 is counting data as through the AV scanner, here's a quote I found online->

"Well avast doesn't download anything of its own accord, the avastSvc.exe is the main avast service and controls all the resident scanners so if you are browsing or using P2P, etc. all that traffic has to be scanned through the avast localhost proxy, so that may be the traffic you see."

So I see it's nothing to worry about as it's the AV scanned data being counted by NL3 as the AV only, uninstalled Unthreat AV and put in MSE, if same thing happens I will put Unthreat AV back in.

Cheers
