hi team

borrowed a friends d-link dsm 320 wireless media player, it wont connect to the  media server (used tversity as seen on some geekzone forum posts)

just not sure if ive set it up correctly.

in the dsm 320, i set option to go wireless

get it to do a site survey, it picks up my asus wireless lan with ssid = default, then use these options, ssid = default, type = ad hoc, wep = disabled, then OK that

it then requests an IP, doesnt seem to find one.

yet in my asus wireless lan, it shows "connected" to the dsm, with signal strength close to 100%.

If i go the other way, i do the site survey from the asus wireless lan, it again finds the dsm 320 and connects. i noticed though in the IP Confg, it doesnt show an IP address .

please help before i go totally insane

running xp sp2

cheers

in the dse 320 when i go into the network settings it has the below

configuration : dhcp
IP : 169.254.159.60
netmask : 255.255.255.0
gateway : 192.168.0.1
dns : 192.168.0.1

in tversity, i entered the IP address 169.254.159.60, no media server, will try the gateway ip address

do these details below

configuration : dhcp
IP : 169.254.159.60
netmask : 255.255.255.0
gateway : 192.168.0.1
dns : 192.168.0.1

do these get entered into the asus lan tcp/ip properties? changed the dsm 320 to "static ip" also. the asus lan model is wl-167g.

with the above done i can now ping 169.254.159.60 in the asus lan, whereas before i wasnt able to (before entering those details into the tcp/ip settings)

tversity media server is running and still the dsm 320 cant find it .
