I guess I'm really trying to put it off but I think my monitor is actually dead.

Sometimes if I have a task running on the computer overnight I'll turn off the monitor (LGW2242T from 2009)

... because sometimes I can't sleep so get up to read for a while, better done without the pull of a live computer.

Anyway, Sunday morning I hit the orange-lit power button to turn on the monitor, the monitor flickered momentarily as it usually does on start up, then went blank, and the power button was blank too - usually blue when on.

I switched power cables (kettle cord - no difference), I plugged in the tv as an output (it still works - so not graphics in computer)

There had been no FLASH, no BANG, no <SMELL OF HOT FRIED ELECTRONICS>

Is my diagnosis correct, do you think?

Oh, it's an internal power thingy - just uses a standard kettle cord, no power block.

On the surface, it sounds dead. How old is it?

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

We get that at work, monitors just give up the ghost with no warning. :(
Could (if that way inclined) take the back off and see if anything obvious burnt out and check for any dodgy solder points... but usually not a lot you can do.

Do you get any light on when you turn the computer off? Reason why I ask is that my monitor just doesn't like starting from cold, so I have to leave the computer on 24/7. When I do start it from cold, the light goes from red to off, with a blank screen, and then some time later -- from 5 minutes to an hour -- the light comes on blue, and the screen comes on. Once its on, it runs great.

In my case, I did get a flash and sparks when a possum climbed into the transformer up the road. There was a multiple explosion which lit up the neighbourhood, so I was surprised that the monitor still goes at all. (The PC is protected a bit more.)

I'm thinking I may take the back off for a quick looksee Gavin, after I've tried TopRob's suggestion.

After all - it is out of warranty now ;)

Just to update (and very late it is indeed)

I ended up getting an LG LED 24EN43 - so it's the same height as my old lcd monitor, but a bit wider, and clearer, and brighter :)

Thanks for the contributions guys!
