Pertaining somewhat to this thread - http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=50&topicid=119461 - I purchased an Adobe suite off ioffer.com. The seller is located in Turkey.

Many thanks,

Someone is going to an awful lot of trouble to ensure that your computer won't be able to contact an Adobe registration server ... to either register of verify a registration.

I would hazard a guess that the software you have purchased may not be legal.

Cheers

how exactly did he "activate it".. generally adobe products are activated with er.. their product key, which is perfectly accepted by adobe's servers and wouldn't require null routing the their activation checks..

hate to tell ya, but it would seem you have thrown your money at a illegal copy ;)

out of interest, what version did you buy?

Thanks, guys, for informing me. No, I didn't realise what he was doing with the host file - hence my asking. No, I wasn't aware it is a pirated copy, either.

I guess it is now up to me to contact Paypal to request my money back.

Have notified Paypal, and they've created a case for me. If the seller doesn't contact them within 10 days, then they will proceed with refunding my money.

Atm I'm uninstalling the software and putting a new copy of the Host file on my computer.

Yes, access given. Computer now undergoing a NOD32 scan.

Since lodging a claim with paypal, I received the following email:
Hello

why you disputed me  pls explain   why you dont asked for refund ?? you f***ed my paypal

to which I replied, and CC'd paypal into, "Sure I'll have a refund over a pirated version of Adobe any day."

He's also just sent me another email:

It did, however because the payment was going via paypal I was wondering whether he was actually legit, as you can request refunds via them. Plus, he's sold to many others before and he doesn't seem to been struck off ioffer.com, or had his paypal account suspended.

Nonetheless, the software is uninstalled, nothing threatening appears on my computer after running ESET scanner, and paypal have lodged a request for my money to be refunded. Now its to get rid of those two pesky emails that won't seem to delete in Outlook.

I suppose this is why you need AV software even on Linux. Common sense.

at least you did the honest and right thing, have to give you kudos for that (tho in all honesty I prob wouldn't have paid for the software) i did pay for lightroom fantastic piece of software that I use a lot... any hows I would be tempted to raise Adobes awareness to the seller and the auction site... it appears theirs more to that auction site...

How did you give him access to your computer?
If he got full admin access, i'd backup all your (non-executable) files, format all your drives and reinstall from scratch..

It's the old saying, if it looks to good to be true...

You are paying thousands for that software in NZ. I don't think adobe are selling future versions like that either , as they are moving to a subscription model, which is very costly.
