Lovely- tonight's scam call when preparing dinner is done.

"Windows Service Centre" politely telling me to jump off my terrace ended it :)

Hubby took the phone call first, and although not technical is aware of the general gist of the calls. So he spent a few minutes playing computer Solitaire while the chap told him to turn on his computer. Then he handed the call across to me.

Apparently they are calling from Windows Service Centre ;)

I was asked if I was sitting in front of my computer and to open the browser - I wasn't and didn't: I wrote in the diary instead

I decided to see how much info (obviously fake) I could get out of them and so asked the chap for his name- he gave one.
I told him I was recording the call, and that it's point of origin was also being traced. I've had others hang up at this point.
Then I asked for his Employee ID number- he gave one ;)
Trying to get a reaction I asked him for his birth date- he gave one. But when I read it back to check it, after the second read he changed the month from 07 to 09 - which do not sound at all like each other for me to have made a mistake.

He asked if my browser had finished opening and directed me to ammyy's site (this is while I was writing notes in the diary downstairs - the computer is upstairs ;)  )

I told him my computer was taking a long time loading the site and asked what should I expect to see when the site loaded.
He kept asking me what I could see; and I kept asking what should I expect to see :)

Eventually he told me I should see a picture of me and a computer and a bamboo stick on my back

I kept repeating what he said I should see and asking if that was correct.

Then he politely told me I should walk across my terrace and jump off, then hung up.

Our early evening's 15 minute entertainment was completed ;)

I posted it before in another thread: I played porn.

Someone called me offering to create a web site for my business. I asked him "what's a website?" and was told "it's all about the Internet, where people will buy from your website".

While he explained I found a porn video, turn on the volume on the laptop and played the video while asking him questions. After a few seconds he started having a hard time to answer my questions - and he finished the call.

No more calls since then.

LOL!!!

Great way to deal with it ;)

Yes I was reading through the other thread, although only the last two pages so didn't see your story.

The thread was locked so I started this one. Add this to the end of the other one if it's more suitable there :)

These calls are funny.
At my old day job, we had customers coming in regularly asking us to check that they didnt have any remote access and their computer was safe.

When Taylor Communications customers started calling me saying they were getting the phone calls, i decided to stop it instantly.

Went to the DNS server and redirected the ammyy admin website to this page.

i understand that there are genuine users of ammyy admin - i use it myself
however genuine users will have customised it and have it hosted on their own website.
I think the risk of blocking the genuine website is worth it for our national GDP

Had them call after 11:00pm the other. Told them if they weren't clever enough to work out the time difference I wasn't going to play their game and hung up

Good response!

They'll be getting a loud whistle in the ear if they phone here that late!

My parents get these sorts of calls all the time. The last one they got Mum answered, she literally knows nothing about computers since I remotely manage their computer. Mum put the guy on hold after he told her to turn on the computer, came back 10mins later and the guy asked "has the computer started up yet?" Mum said Yes.

The guy then told Mum to click on the start menu, Mum said ughhh where's the start menu on Linux? This followed on to the call being hung up in her ear.

For my mother not knowing anything about the computer I gave her kudos.

My father on the other hand get's a really loud whistle and screams that down the phone, and says "oh we have something wrong with our phone line"
