I usually ignore most adverts but this one caught my eye.
It was for www.lockerhq.com

You know the old addage, the dentist with bad teeth.
Mechanic with beat up car.

Or the IT guy that falls victem to identity theft due to poor password management.
I am sure it has happened, somewhere.

After seeing their ad in a printed security related magazine "newzealandsecurity.co.nz" I did a little more background research on the subject.

Looked at the competition.
http://usb-password-managers-review.toptenreviews.com/

Their product stacked up well.
On to ordering.

Strike 1.
The order page is not secure(HTTPS)
I find it a little disappointing that a security related product has an unsecured order page.
While not the end of the world it does make a poor first impression.

Strike 2.
No contact information on the site.
Only the live chat.
Sure the chat might be good for troubleshooting but there might not be a 'paper' trail for future reference.

So I found an email at their parent company site, www.optimizerhq.com
and sent them what I thought.
Will see how they respond.

Am I being a little harsh? Cool

Not at all.

I do find disturbing thought the claim that "Cloud backup FREE forever (worth $50/month)"

Seriously? $50 a month to backup passwords? Something LastPass does for free?

Also a bit of FUD here: "Yahoo Mail users have had their accounts hacked. While “hacked” is a very broad term nowadays, it does appear that Yahoo email accounts are being compromised after users click on a malicious link they receive in their inboxes."

Well, it was a XSS for all we know, nothing related to password disclosure.

No you're not, looks dodgy.

imo use LastPass or 1Password or if you want more control then KeePass + some form of online storage (dropbox, google drive etc)

Worst case get LastPass and make sure you use the Authenticator option (for mobile-based one time pass generator) or Yubikey which not only has a password generator plus USB device plus fingerprint optional.

Thanks for the suggestions.

While I got an quick automated reply to my email,
"This email confirms that we have received your email and that a ticket has been created for you."

A human response is still forthcoming.

I think the cloud back is for the entire contents of the usb stick.
Still $50 is a bit steep for 4gb.

FUD and marketing are the same thing isn't it? Innocent
