I have an Asus motherboard with 4x AGP slot, running a Radeon 9600 pro 256MB 8x card. I also have 512MB DDR266 RAM.

Is there much point at all replacing the motherboard for the sole purpose of getting an 8x AGP slot, or am I better off investing in DDR400 RAM (up to 1gb)? Does going from 4x to 8x make a hell of a lot of difference?

Any advice muchly appreciated!!!

I think video card makers added onboard ram rather than trying to make full use of the AGP bandwidth. There are plenty of refs to 4X being marginally faster than 2X and 8X not much better.
