It seems that it doesnt support a GPT drive. I know there were some things available some time back to get it to install on a larger drive with some tricky overlay thing like was needed back at the 137 gig barrier in the past, is there something like that for GPT on a USB external?

Basically I have put a whole lot of "linux isos" onto a drive and given it to someone, and they cant use it. Im about to tell them that they are on their own with their steam powered P4 era computer but thought I would try on this occasion to solve a problem which is really of their own making.

If i remember right, it was actually the number of sectors that was the limit.
So 2.2tb was the limit when it was formatted at 512 bytes.

If you reformat the drive with a allocation unit size of 4096 bytes then you can have the drive set up as MBR instead of GPT and it should work

Dont really have the space to deal with a copy everything off, reformat and put it all back at the moment. I have advised the friend to acquire a USB 3.0 2TB drive and I will put a selection of stuff onto that.
