Hi folks... I don't have a MacBook around here, but do I understand correctly it uses a Mini DisplayPort so I need a MDP -> VGA adapter (not the Mini DVI)?

Thanks

Depends on the generation I think, but yes if it's anything later than the last few years it will use a MDP - VGA, OR Thunderbolt - VGA adapter. Though I believe the same adapter will work on either port as it is the same form factor.

EDIT: I Think the last gen to use the Mini-DVI port was the old polycarbonate MacBook.

Above agrees with my experience.

Also consider buying genuine Apple. Annoyingly expensive but the various imitations can have issues like not mating perfectly at the mb end and often becoming intermittent with small movements. I also suspect there is possibility of slowly damaging the mb socket end. I use the cheap imitations for entirely static never unplug it or move it again type use, but for any kind of mobile plug/unplug use I would definitely go genuine.

Note: Apple might not make genuine Thunderbolt to VGA.

Also have a MDP -> VGA for my 2013 MBA. The official Apple one is $50 if I recall? Got it from JBHIFI and it works flawlessly, and looks gorgeous for an adaptor hahaha.
