A older co-worker of mine recently found 3 old flight simulator games tucked away, one new in wrap still, one looks unused and one not too bad condition.
He asked me if they were worth anything or if he should bin them, so on behalf of him, should we just bin them?

Any input appreaciated :)

OMG, sweet. I dunno, windows being still based on MSDOS, will they run?

Takes me back to utilities to maximize that 640k memory limit .

you can always run them from within dosbox, done that with one or 2 of my old favourite dos games

Even in "unused" condition they're probably not worth anything, unless you can find an avid collector. Places like the Lions Charity Book Sales often have piles of old software that nobody want to buy.

Heck.. This is going back in time. What are the release dates on these games? I would actually love to have a copy of simcity 2000, the original age of empires and duke nukem 3d..

I have SC2000 non-Special Edition (DOS), as well as the DN3D Atomic Edition (Mac OS). Looks like I'm partway there :)

I've got SimCity 2000 CD Collection (Mac - although it doesn't say anything on the box / disc, so it may be dual-format), copyright 1994, but I have got a pile of Star Wars games going back to 1993's Rebel Assault (Mac) and even older Amiga games in the cupboard. :-)

Ahh yes, I have both Rebel Assaults, as well as the DOS action-adventure "Relentless" which was one of my favourite games when I was a kid :)

I also have the Windows version of Final Fantasy VIII, which I believe is reasonably rare although not as old as some of those other games.

Hmm, time to loadup the Duke Nukem 3D, Doom I and II, Heretic, and Unreal Tourney games ,,,
I think the main issues were the sound card emulators. Seemed to work OK in Win XP, but may have issues in Win 7

They are probably pretty common still. Eventually some games maybe worth something, but it will be more likely the packaging, as the software is probably available on emulators.

I paid for the lucasarts game backs.. heaps of dollars. Sam n Max hit the road, Star wars tie fighter, among others. The SB16 emulation (who remembers needing Set Blaster =A220 variables!) is the tricky bit. It all tries to contact resources via direct hardware interupts that now often don't exist. And SW emulation is the only way, of which some titles just don't play ball

I nearly cried throwing away my original hardware. I had a P160+ and P200, Slot 1 350 all in good working condition.. *sigh* It felt dirty

Theres mates in dunedin that run retrolans. No hardware is allowed to be newer than Y2000. (except the ATA hard drives if you are real hard up). They play all the retros as above. Some of them build up the PCs in new-age cases for a laugh. Like clear cases with all the mod cons. Dual Slot 1 450 CPUs. Voodoo Banshees or stacked Voodoo I/IIs

Was disappointing to hear they needed parts a few weeks after mine had gone to the great copper smelter in the sky.
