hey there got a laptop i want to hook up to a 43 inch lcd tv, whats the best cable to run need vga to hdmi, its got a res of 1024x768

it came up res to high, so is there a converter?

best to do a VGA to S-video if you can. otherwise it's VGA to RCA would have to do.

DVI-hdmi works better but there can be sound issues. Probably better off getting a cheap video card with hdmi out.

Might help if you can post the model of the laptop and TV youre trying to use. Ive seen similar messages before but that was years ago on 2000/XP.

What sort of TV is it? I find it strange a TV would only support 1024x768 - this is what used to exist 4+ years ago with many old Plasma's.

If it does only support that the picture will look terrible anyway as 1024x768 is a 4:3 aspect ratio and the screen is 16:9

Sorry, what is coming up Res too High - The TV, or the Laptop?

Is it quite an old TV?

Or is it one of those cheap Samsung Plasmas from last year? They had a max resolution like that (nowhere near full HD).

Sounds like you need to turn down the resolution on your laptop.

Yeah seen that on a couple of cheap one's a friend got to run advertising on. Had to warp the slideshow images for it to look ok over vga at the native resolutuon

so...
resolution spec from last century & no downscaling (or downscaling doesnt work)

Some TV's do have various issues connecting to PC's via hdmi : mine included, very buggy.

I use a VGA to HDMI converter box from jaycar - my 2 year old 42" tv also has a native resolution of 1024x768 even though the panel resolution is higher. Even at the 1024x768 its elongated to I just use a higher resolution anyway. Its not as crisp but its still quite usable.
