Hello,

I'm Hagrid, I'm new on here btw
I'm doing a diploma in PC Support Level 5

can someone please help me with this error, now just so everyone knows what I've done to try and fix it,
Basically my computer hangs (intermittent) when waking from monitor sleep, (computer still running fans etc)
it hangs and the keyboard numlock stays on (Can't turn it off) and the laser on the mouse goes out but the other light on the mouse remains powered
I've tried disabling monitor sleep as a work around but then what happens is the signal on the screen just goes off and it eventually restarts after 20 mins or so and says the system has restarted from a bug check (bluescreen) Computer is 6 months old brought from PB Tech, they applied this hotfix /kb/2459268, but it say’s digitizer device (which I don’t have anyway) plus S5 power state is not what my computer was in, my computer was running just idle….

screenshot of bluescreen
Gigabyte B85M-D3H MB
Intel Core i7 4771
Cooler Master G700 (700 watt PSU)
Sapphire R9 280x Dual

1. Bios Update

2. GPU Driver update,
3. All driver updates
4.Remove CMOS chip,
5. Re Install windows 7 and tried win 8
6 Tried different monitor
7. Tried passmark ram test 6 cycles with no errors
8. Tried passmark cpu and furmark gpu test (at the same time) for 7 hours and computer ran stable, it just seems to be low power states that something doesn’t like.     Any help world be greatly appreciated, thanks, here's a link to my error  http://prntscr.com/31ur49

Here's some questions : )

1. Please explain a bit more how you disabled monitor sleep.
2. Can you find out which driver is throwing the error?
3. What is your windows version and build number?

I only have the link to my bluescreen viewer screenshot, I thought that would tell you everything you need to know? I disabled monitor sleep in control panel under power plan settings. I've also tried changing the power plan to high performance and re seating the ram.

version 6.1.7601 SP 1, build 7601

Ok. That is very basic information only. You will need to do some extra work to open the minidump file at the location shown in your screenshot and find the driver name that is throwing the original fault. That viewer is showing you only the top level stuff. Many steps to go yet.. Walkthrough here.

oh right, I've had enough of this computer, taking it back to PB Tech and they are going to send it to their more ''advanced'' techs,
thanks for the help but I didn't think it would be so involved.

Good luck. In case you wanted more information.

Is this an Intel SATA device? If so have you installed the appropriate Intel RST driver for it? What kind of storage is this (HDD or SSD)? Some older SSDs have problems with Intel RST and needed to have the Intel LPM disabled (Link Power Management) through a registry change.

Anyway, se what they say...

Hi, yes it's the latest Intel SSD currently, I've tried installing windows onto a normal platter based hdd and get the same error, also tried swapping the Sata cable.

I'd bet it's a problem with LPM and Intel RST drivers. Good luck having them finding the problem.

I bet it's hardware, do you know how many times I've reinstalled everything reformatting hard drive each time

Well just so you know. There exist problems that reinstallation cannot fix and are at the same time not hardware problems.

it's not SW if you have the same issue with both 7 and 8.1, omg why are people insisting it's a sw issue, I think the rams bad or PSU/MB

Personally I'm not insisting it's a software issue.

Freitasm is obviously not insisting either but assigns a high probability.

I'm just sitting around waiting for the wave function to collapse ; ). Basically we gave you a start on looking into the problem yourself, which is what you asked for.

I hope it is, I have to pay for non SW faults, It must be the PSU, because that's when the issue got really bad, maybe the PSU can't cope, it say's 750 watt or greater PSU recommended for my GPU and my PSU is only 700 watt, but it's a good quality one.

Update: penrose found no fault, they think it might be a slight incompatibility so they will replace MB (with same model)I said if it's the exact same model that wont fix my issue I will pay extra for a slightly upgraded model, they told me they don't have the authority to do that, so I had to talk to henderson (where I originally brought the MB) they have agreed to a MB upgrade of my choice with a %20 restocking fee and a discount on the new MB, meanwhile penrose already replace with same model (even though I told them to wait till i talk to henderson) so now henderson have to try sort out a refund between different branches and theres the issue of installation as they have already put in the replacement board...

Ok here's what I can see could be an issue, your PSU isn't powerful enough to handle the 2 R9 280x cards, you should have at least a 800w in there, (I know for 1 R9 290 they say the minimum PSU you should have is 700w). just hit up pricespy I know there are 1kw PSUs for under $200.
