What convinces you this is caused by an application?  Could be a hardware or driver problem.

Could a faulty Dvd drive cause this error? Sometimes my dvd drive doesn't show at all in device manager until I restart.

Get "Who Crashed". It will analyse the  crash dumps and tell you what caused the BSOD.

Just been through this with an nvidia game driver update for my evga card. uninstalled the driver using http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/display_driver_uninstaller_download.html and used the latest whql driver from evga and no problems since.
I think it was whocrashed that lead me to the NVIDIA driver being the cause of the problem.
