Is there a NAS out there where you can also have a PC or smart TV or whatever access it locally for speed purposes?

ie I want a big storage area for the network, semi-offsite backup etc, but what to be able to stream videos, photos, music from the lounge TV without it being so slow via a network connection.

Come to think of it, would I be better just to setup a PC as a NAS setup by the TV for that purpose?
