Google is trying out a new "feature" that hides web addresses /URLs from the browser...

Good or bad? Is it the way of the future or just a really bad idea from Google?

I'm trying it out and one thing already - it adds 2 steps to the process to copy and paste a URL...

Good for people that have absolutely no idea about computers at all, but otherwise I think it may just be very annoying - I'm going to give it a day or two trial anyways...

It's an extension of current functionality. Try typing "geekzone" and then the tab key for example...

In reality? Nothing to see here really. It's probably just Google trying to make "browser by Google" (those people who enter a URL in the search box instead of address bar then click the first search result - which sometimes IS NOT the website they are looking for) more prevalent.

What worries me already is how do I know I've left one website and gone to another?

Or how do I know I'm logging into my bank website and not some very good clone site that will take all my details???

Its not so obvious when the full URL is not shown.

Or even when using some of our web applications here at work, we need to change the URL details regularly which is not so easily done with the "Origin Chip" enabled...

I love the fact that all my details in Chrome synchronise across all my devices but now that Firefox can do this also, any change that annoys me in Chrome would be enough to jump ship...

I think you have it wrong, it is actually better for security and it is clearer to see what domain you are on.

This happens all the time. We recently had to improve the SEO of the login page for a client of ours, since their customers were having trouble finding it. They couldn't comprehend typing in the address directly into the browser - they preferred to search Google for it :/
