Hello,

Question is in the title. Both PSU's are modular, but the plugs on the PSU end for the SATA cables differ between the two.

The problem is I have my SSD mounted flush on the other side of the plate my motherboard is attached to. The SATA cable that came with the CoolerMaster PSU has the wires coming out the bottom of the plug instead of the back, which means it cant be used with my flush mounted SSD (it can't get close enough due to the wires).

The SATA cables that came with my Seasonic PSU work fine (because the wires come out the back of the plug), but the plug at the PSU end is different.

If I use the seasonic SATA cable I would have to plug it into a "PCI-E" socket on my CoolerMaster PSU - is that OK or a bad idea?

You should/could look up the voltages for the plugs (should be same) and check the pin allocation match the cable colours (wouldn't want to invert the polarity) and there's no reason it CAN'T work, but honestly, a cheap adapter for the SATA end is prolly your easiest and safest bet at this point

Maybe get a SATA power extension cable like this http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?ItemID=410926

Unless you can prove the cables are interchangeable between the power supplies, don't do it. You may fry something.

The plugs on the PSU for the PCI-E 8/6+2 cables only provide 12v, because that's all those cables require. It does not provide 5v and 12v required for SATA, assuming that the voltage is even on the right pins at the Sata port end (unlikely given those ports have an entirely different purpose) , you'd at best send 12v down the 5v line and either way would almost certainly result in a very expensive burnt smell from your SSD.

Andrew's power extension is probably the cheapest and easiest solution for you btw, otherwise carefully remove the "end" Sata connector on your existing cable, and crimp one like this on:

Thanks. In the end of decided to just remove the hard drive so I could at least test it out. Bit of a pain because I had to remove the motherboard etc, now that it's removed I don't know if I will bother putting it back but if I do I will look at an adapter.
