So I really need to replace the desktop PC monitor now that even my laptop has a higher resolution, 1080p isnt cutting it.

There are some reasonable 4k screens for a decent price, and there are some reasonable 144Hz screens at a nice price.

Question is, when will we see _both_ in one screen. I never really bothered with gaming as I didnt see it as being nice to look at till I tried a friends rig with 144Hz, and find that to be actually playable without it making me feel disoriented like low frame rates do, but I also want higher res for when I am doing productive work so I can have nice small text and still be able to read it.

Anyone aware of anyone announcing something that is both awesome in Hz and res?

The short answer is no, 4K 144hz displays are not currently available at a consumer level.

That aside, one big consideration for going to 4K, especially given you mention gaming, is what GPU is being used - can it handle that res at all, and can it handle that res with the sort of performance you expect.

1080 upscale is fine for gaming. I've always run at a lower res to keep the framerate up anyway since Imo it's more important that I can see things as movement rather than a sequence of stills.

LG has released an Ultra Wide series of monitors, running at 3440 x 1440. Looks really good, I want one, Mighty Ape has them for $1700

My main issue (and it's stopping me buying a 4k monitor) is that Windows simply isn't good enough at dealing with pixels that small. Google for it. It's shocking and there's basically no fix.

Just move the slider back to 100% and windows seems fine. Everything is small which is the whole point of a high res screen. 28" 4k is about the same as a 15" 1080 dpi wise which is fine to use.

Correct, current versions of HDMI and DisplayPort in the consumer market can only support 4k at 60hz

Think I will be looking at the QHD one in that case, but going to that from my 22" 1080 screen will be a step backwards in PPI.

Not if you went with the ROG Swift, which is 107ppi, and a 22" @ 1080p is 100ppi ;)

Working at CL I have seen all of the QHD monitors firsthand; they're over-hyped. Don't get my wrong; I'd love to own one as the PPI is incredible, but the panels don't match my 1920x1200 Dell U2412M.

I'm going to wait patiently until an IPS model from Dell is released :)
