Wifey took quite a good video inside an A320 taking off from Auckland, Dur about 7 mins,  and I'd like to transfer it to the PC.

I connected the S3 to a Win 7 machine and got some kind of wizard, but no folder structure as such. Also it called it an GT-I9300 and said there were or new photos or videos. The S3 does have an extra memory card.

Also have a choice of Win7 or XP machines if that helps/matters...

Thanks for any assistance.

99% of Androids Ive used, get you to enable a USB mode once its connected to a PC before it would allow access to the files - does the S3 prompt you to do this ? (Ive never played with an S3, so maybe things were changed)

I get 2 options when connecting :-

1) Import Pictures and Videos
This gives a message "No new pictures or videos were Found"

2) Open device to view files
This gives the GT-I9300 folder in Explorer but is empty.

No mention of " USB mode".  There's a 'view more autoplay options" but they seem to offer just 2 more -  "Take no action" or "Ask me every time".

Samsung Kies is the free software you can download for this phone for managing photos, videos and more.

"transferring files from samsung s3 to pc"  The sixth or so down was ayoutube video ?? Google is always my friend for this sort of stuff. People are amazed at my knowledge but i just use google.

IMPORTANT: Make sure the S3 is not locked (IE the phone is displaying the normal desktop screen) otherwise you won't see the directory structure.

Providing it is unlocked you should see two folders - "Phone" and "Card". Under each of these are numerous sub folders, you need to look in the sub folder "DCIM". Under the DCIM folder will be a folder "Camera". This is where all your photos and movies are stored.

IE Look at "GT-I9300\Card\DCIM\Camera" or "GT-I9300\Phone\DCIM\Camera" (It depends on where you have chosen to store photos and movies)

Dropbox upload, BitTorrent Sync (goes across LAN), or AirDroid app.

Yes, did consider Google but trying here first. You can't interact with Google like on here.

Hiamie, that did the trick. Connecting with the the S3 desktop open does show the DCIM folder in Explorer.
There's subfolders Camera, Photo, and Video but the only one populated is 'Camera' and that shows only jpg files.
There's no size or searching available from these folders, unlike the usual Explorer ones.
Is DCIM just the phones memory ??? If yes, can I check the mem card contents anyhow?

Thanks for the other ideas If i can't figure it out I'll try Samsung Kies and/or Dropbox.  Would prefer to keep it simple
and learn how to access via Explorer, if possible.

Got it sorted..  main  hassle was the phone is in 'Camera mode' by default and you need 'Media mode'. I'd like to explain how to do that
but we got it by sheet fluke and the phone won't do it again.   The Win7 Import wizard came up when connecting phone to PC  - and
copied all 190 pictures and videos to some folder it decided on, fortuitously presenting it on completion (we'll never find that folder again!)
and that allowed the one wanted file to be copied to the desktop. Whee-he !

But then VLC won't play it without horrible distortion!  'Media Player Classic' will - except its rotate keys refuse to work so you have to watch it sideways!

LOL guess it'll come right before the years up... was going to email it to someone but it's 900 MB. Maybe Handbrake will shrink it.... but
don't think it will rotate ??
