Hi all,
I'm going nuts here. I've had to borrow a monitor but cannot get it to wake. It's a Dell, going immediately into power save mode the moment the PC commences its boot up routine. Every plug appears well seated. Any suggestions of what I can do next? It is urgent that I get access to my PC today- all help appreciated.

sounds like the wiring has a broken link somewhere - either between graphics card and monitor port or something more deep seated.

either get another cable or get another monitor or both :(

If it has multiple inputs make sure the right one is selected on the monitor. Next would be to try a different cable.

If the cables check ok and another monitor works fine then it's highly likely you've got swelling capacitors in the psu of the monitor - they can be replaced often it's marginal in terms of cost over buying a new monitor.
