Howdy,

I've got some issues with my photosmart 3110 all in one from HP. It worked perfectly under MS XP. However since I built a new machine and installed Vista 32, I have continual problems.

I downloaded the latest drivers (specifically for Vista 32), and the installation seems to go ok. However a few days after installation HPupdate tries running and then reinstalling the printer. Now this is annoying, in itself, but the HP update programme never completes its reinstallation because it asks for a CD-rom and is looking for a program called setup.exe. Which of course doesn't exist.

So from then on the printer doesn't work. If I turn off the printer then back on again. MS Vista recognises new hardware and installs it's own drivers for the printer. So at least I can print, but I lose the scanner functionality. Googling has produced no solutions, and the HP website is no help either.

Here's hoping someone here might have a few bright ideas. Thanks in advance.

Can you run MSCONFIG and check Startup items? Perhaps you can find the HP Updater there and disable it from starting up when you login?

Thanks.

I've just tried that. In conjunction with an unistall and fresh install.

One thing that does happen during the installation, that seems odd. The installer asks that you turn on the printer and then connect the USB cable. However, when I do this the printer is not detected. There is no two-tone sound associated with the connection of a USB device either. But if I recycle the power on the printer then the printer is detected and it looks like vista tries to install it's own drivers for it, down in the taskbar, and then tells me that my device is ready to use.

Grrrrr. It's a wait and see process now.

Cheers
