Norton Save Restore 2.0 Creating a Recovery Disk

I have just purchased

1) Norton Save Restore 2.0 (NSR2.0)

2) Western Digital 160GB Portable USB drive

I want to use this to backup my 2 x 80GB internal disks.

NSR2.0 was downloaded from the net. It was easy to install it and create my first backup. My next incremental backup is scheduled in a few days.

To perform a recovery, NSR2.0 needs a Recovery Disk. If NSR2.0 is bought in a store this disk is part of the package. For download customers you can download an .iso file so you can create your own Recovery Disk.

Using Nero and the .iso file I am able to create a CD disk image, but Nero created this image file on the harddrive not the CD.

Does anyone know 1) how to create a bootable CD from an .iso file and 2) how to test that the CD created is performing correctly(i.e. is bootable)?

Thanks for any help.

IMGburn is the best thing IMO for burning ISO's to disc.

The best way to test it is to put it in and see if it boots Tongue out

Nero has an option to create disc from image. You probably just create image from image...

If you need another application I recommend ISO Recorder. It's free and works really well. Right-click the ISO file and select "Open with | ISO Recorder".

Thanks for all your help and comments.

I was able to burn the CD image file using Nero. It took 2 steps:

  1. Create a new compilation with option “Create a CD image”. This created an image file on a selected hard drive
  2. Use File Burn selecting the image file created in step 1. Be sure that the “Create CD from image” is not ticked in this step.

Eject and reinsert the CD just burned. If ok a NSR2.0 menu is displayed

With the CD inserted start NSR2.0, use File/Create Recovery Disk to re-create a Recovery Disk specific for your PC.

I list this info here because Symantec support was not able to provide documentation to do this task. It is pretty essential to get this done, without a Recovery Disk, no recovery from a corrupt OS.
