I'm on the hunt for a new monitor that has a glossy finish on the actual display area.

Something like this http://reviews.digitaltrends.com/review4452_intro22267.html

or like that of the new 24inch MACs.

I can't seems to find many options for monitors ike these in NZ. The HP costs like $800+ here... anyone know of any?

Why would you want glossy?

Glossy monitors are just horrible, if you are going to use it for more than 30 seconds a day then pick one with a matte surface.

I must admit I really like the matte screen.  I have used a glossy notebook screen for a few years now and reflection is always an issue.  Also, it strains the eyes.

I recently bought a Philips 20" flatscreen monitor (matte) and boy, it is soothing to the eyes and I don't see any difference in picture / movie quality.

I got a Dell Widescreen Ultrasharp LCD (Can't remember if it's 21 or 24 inch).  Great picture. I don't think I'll ever go back to a CRT!

There must be a reason you want a glossy screen.. but you've got us all wondering why? :)

Cheers,

Actually I stare at my monitor for hours on end. Reflection isn't going to be a problem, I work mostly at night anyway.

Besides, if the sun's shinning, no matter what the surface is, it's going to be unbareable. I don't like the diffused look of light off a matte surface. Glossy surface imho makes image sharper and the colors look better. At least to me, the difference is rather significant.

The Macs indeed look good. The blacks and reds are very clear.

I think their might be a flim or something you can put on your lcd monitor to make it glossy. I haven't seen one recently but I think I saw something on Trademe.
