Hey guys, quick question before I try samsung support or taking this back to jbhifi since my google fu has failed me...

I just bought this monitor and have it set up next to an AOC LED screen, it looks great and is smooth with video etc but there's one issue, usually fairly faint and unnoticeable... The best way I can describe it is scrolling horizontal lines, similar to when you view a CRT screen through a camera - but not as severe or as fast.

It happens only on the new screen, Much more noticeable in a full screen game with dark colours (or maybe even only when the games going? it's fairly subtle so its hard to tell sometimes)
I've tried various settings, it seems that full screen mode makes it heaps worse, windowed mode either stops it entirely or makes it very unnoticeable.

The picture on the new screen is much better quality than the old, so its possible it was always happening and I can only see it on the new screen... Been tweaking different settings on and off to see if i can make it change.

Any ideas? Anything I can test to try work out what's causing it?

What graphics card do you have?

What type of cable are you using (vga, DVI, HDMI or Displayport?)

CPU: AMD 5900x | RAM: GSKILL Trident Z Neo RGB F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC-32-GB | MB:  Asus X570-E | GFX: EVGA FTW3 Ultra RTX 3080Ti| Monitor: LG 27GL850-B 2560x1440

I'm not an expert by any stretch, but here's what I would check right off the bat.

- Try a different cable, and a different cable type
- Try plugging into the motherboards VGA output, may single out a GPU issue.
- Try the monitor on a different computer or laptop.
- Check the settings on the monitor, especially around refresh rate.
- Check your GPU's control panel for refresh rate settings and resolution settings.

Take hints from what works and what doesnt, I'm suspicious of a GPU issue or a refresh rate issue.

vga cable, with a converter as gfx is DVI input only

graphics card is an AMD Radeon HD 7700

will try it on a different pc later - will be tricky to emulate same conditions tho as other pc is pretty old

Grab a DVI to HDMI cable, may fix it?

mmm didnt think of using different cable type since the only screen options are VGA and HDMI

actually could just use a straight HDMI cable (since gfx does actually have hdmi output, just realised), will give it a whirl

yeeeeahhh I can't stand troubleshooting.  I want clippy to come up and be all like 'hey I see you're having a problem with your screen display quality, would you like me to automatically fix this?'

no change, does this suggest my gfx card can't handle the jandle?

I've really only ever run a single display, however I have tried multiple displays and had a few issues every time, its usually just settings. I doubt its your GPU, but with the price of the new GTX 970 cards its worth looking at regardless.

In the monitor config of the AMD/ATI bloatware there is a slider to remove the underscan.

They do that because many people are using TV's, and some crap TVs emulate an old CRT screen by cutting off the edges of the picture. This also add's to the percieved screensize when its beside one that is not overscanning in a store display so people will buy the one with bigger faces on it even tho they are the same size. If you dont underscan the desktop, then the start button is off the bottom of the screen so it makes more support hassles.

thanks guys, underscanning was indeed the new issue that appeared due to HDMI, and the annoying scrolling lines must have been a VGA thing only since it now all seems to be fine

extended displays one hdmi and one dvi, same res - all looking nice and healthy, yay!
