Do you have a need to?

I personally only upgrade my motherboard when it's time for a CPU upgrade. Unless you need the extra features or your current motherboard is faulty there isn't much point IMO

I personally only upgrade my motherboard when it's time for a CPU upgrade. Unless you need the extra features or your current motherboard is faulty there isn't much point IMO

When the old mobo dies - by which time your PC will probably be seriously superseded and require total replacement.

Agree with the above.

I normally select a motherboard at the initial full new system creation stage only. It's not a component I choose to upgrade in isolation like a GPU or HDDs etc.

Currently Running a GIGABYTE 990FX with Thunban CPU. I want to upgrade as channel 1 had died and can now only boot with 8GB of RAM rather than the usual 16GB, my motherboard speaker, PCI-E x8 slot, most fan headers, ethernet port and USB 3.0 header are all dead.

...Still not upgrading, Battlefield 4, CounterStrike and Company of Heroes all work fine for now. Why spend the money? lol

Check the MB's site and FAQ for your MB. Then look at the Firmware notes. If you don't have the latest firmware for your MB, be sure to save the current version before upgrading. Last time I tried to do that I ended up locked out of my system because the new firmware was not seeing my raid drivers. That was a royal PITA to fix IIRC

unless you brought it in the last 4-6months it wont support it

those products are still in their first gen so they are still very expensive compared to the current DDR3 offerings.

Im still on DDR2 but its about time for an upgrade but i doubt ill be going to DDR4 unless the price drops significantly

Only when you need a CPU or specific feature/function that doesn't fit/work on your current one. I've never upgraded an MB, I've always replaced when I upgraded the CPU.

I'm peeved off that my HP motherboard came with 8GB made up of 4x 2GB sticks instead of 2x 4GB.
I want to go to 16GB in total, but will have to junk the whole lot to replace with 4x 4GB sticks.

If anyone is upgrading, and has 4x 4GB sticks then let me know

I wouldn't worry about DDR4 at all.

It's new, expensive, supported only on handful of CPUs/Motherboards.

There is nothing really compelling about DDR4 yet.

Besides, your motherboard supports triple channel DDR3. Almost all the latest CPUs/motherboard still only support dual channel DDR3.

btw. I have DDR4. But, I only got it because I had to. My motherboard and CPU don't support anything else.

Download English version of the manual.

Pages 2-12 and 2-13 have info. on best memory configurations.

Seems like max. supported memory is 6 x 4MB = 24MB RAM.
