I've noticed a newish problem with spam. Messages are coming from a user to the same user. Now it may be that some are being trapped by spamassassin - I have the obvious spam deleted so never even see them. But for some time now more spam messages have been coming through with the same user as sender. I can't see any way to stop this.

An extra dimension to the issue is that we use a common SpamAssassin system for all accounts used by both my wife and me. As there are real messages from one to the other we don't want to catch those. I could modify our behaviour to never send messages from the same address and the recipient - I only do this when testing so could use one of the other accounts to test.

So just wondered if anyone had any ways to stop this.

(We use Thunderbird for email.)

Thanks

What is the domain name? Does it have a SPF record associated to it?

There are four domains (one of which is email only) - I don't know what an SPF record is - guess I'll ask my friend who hosts the domains.

Well what do you know - CPanel has the answers. Can you tell I'm pretty ignorant of what goes on under the hood?

The SPF system allows you to authorize servers and IP addresses to send mail from your domain(s). This feature prevents outgoing spam messages.
Status: Enabled and Active (DNS Check Passed)

A good quality host will help you with all that.
