So I seen this and thought it was very cheap considering it was filled with drives as well so made an impulse buy.

Seller was fantastic and shipped to me the full packaging it originally came in which is always handy to have.

Came with 4 2tb hd's however I have taken them out and put in 4 wd 3tb greens. I hoard alot of television episodes so have moved everything I had over to the drobo , took quite some time to move 3.7tb of shows but now its all done found the system to be quite good.

I used the 4 2tb drives that came with the unit to backup all my data just in case the drobo falls over but for the price I paid I am pretty happy with it even though it is an old gen 2 model and is pretty slow.

Anybody else use these at all ??

So long as it's backed up no problem. Data recovery from propriety RAID systems can be difficult.

With your WD Green drives I think you're meant to do something that prevents them spinning down every 6 seconds. That's their default and it makes them wear out very quickly. If you have a choice an hour or so might be better, but I think NAS drives might spin 24x7.

No but I'd get those greens out of that immediately and switch to Red's. Google for why. Expect major problems with greens in NAS.

I owned one. It was hassle free however limited without the Network attachment - doesn't qualify as a NAS. Synology sold me a better product and it was worth every dollar paid for it.

With the configuration change I mentioned above they're meant to be ok.

Was looking at reds , currently had the greens sitting there thats why I put them in.

I have 4 X 2TB green in my Thecus for over 4 years now. No issue.

I've been running 2x2TB Greens for 3 years no issues also. They were on the supported Synology drive list. Would I run them with mission critical data? No. For a home Nas, yes.

Old work mate had one, he raved about it until one day the raid corrupted itself and he lost everything.

I had one a few years ago, loved it at first, but then it died, one drive bay just wouldnt work, so took it down to 3 drives only. I switched to a readynas, thats been rock solid for years.
