I am pretty slow to migrate. Just playing around with allowing Gmail.com to access my NZ ISP email which I use for looking for jobs etc .. might look more professional than using a .com email address.

AFAIK, other than the university or the commercial version MS Office Outlook doesn't provide Outlook so down the road this might the way it is.

Do you guys use an email software on the computer or do you just access it thru a browser / app? Do you also set up a separate Gmail.com to facilitate this? If not when I sync them there would be the other emails too right ....

Perception wise, if I saw someone emailing me from an ISP address it'd raise red flags. Webmail services like Gmail are far more ubiquitous now and less stigmatised than ISP addresses.

I use mail software with a custom domain. I can't imagine using a Web browser to check email; that sounds like a pain.

Yep I still use outlook heavily. Although that's mainly due to most of my email addresses being exchange based.

Xtra user. I use webmail, the Yahoo UI is fine, clean. On iPhone/iPad, the Yahoo built in app is just the email address and PW to set up, and while it uses a preset Yahoo SMTP server using SSL, the app acts exactly like webmail or IMAP, in that I can access all folders that exist on my webmail on the rMBP. Given the lack of setup complications its a good solution for the IT challenged, and while that isn't me, it works well.

Clearnet for me. I used to have a hotmail email address, but I've allowed it to expire now.

I've never had a Gmail account. Are they any good?

I find Gmail good, maybe a bit quicker than Outlook.com. Gmail has more options not that I use them ... Looking at putting my ISP email to a webmail service so I can access them easier when I am away from my own device and when I am on travel I can still access the archive.

Thunderbird with Gmail. I might look into getting a custom mail server at one point but I just don't have the spare time nor the man power to do it. I have the server to do it as well.

I have my domain and email hosted with Ramsu. On my PC I use Ramsu's Roundcube Webmail simply because I haven't bothered to install Thunderbird. However 90% of my email is read and composed on my iPhone. I switch to the PC (and thus Roundcube Webmail) only for composing longer emails and the occasional cleanup when my inbox gets too long to manage on the iPhone.

I previously managed my own email server (as a VPS with ARP Networks in the US and later with Ramsu) but got fed up with tweaking my spam filtering strategy and decided to just outsource it to Ramsu. Their spam filtering is not as good as Gmail et al but good enough for me.

At work it's the other way around. We use Outlook connected to Exchange 365 or whatever the Microsoft cloud service is called. I could access it via the web but desktop Outlook is pretty good (and it caches quite a lot of stuff so response time is usually very good). I'm aware of some staff in my office that seem to prefer OWA over native Outlook for some reason (don't ask me!). We also have Windows phone that can access Exchange but I only use that to check that I don't have any urgent emails. If I see an urgent query I go back to my PC and reply via Outlook. Never compose an email on mobile.

I have 4 email addresses (well, 4 email domains, but who is counting ;). 3 of them are Google Apps (Google Mail/Gmail for companies).

Use Mailplane on OS-X (basically a wrapper for the excellent Gmail web-app), and the very good Gmail app on iOS (iPhone and iPad). The 4th email is an Office 365 email account. Use the OWA app on iOS and Outlook on OS-X for that one.

Must say I far prefer Gmail/Google Apps. The search alone makes it a killer, then comes things like incredibly good virus protection and ease of use.

I love Outlook, but probably because I have always used it. It used to be that all that added value like calendar, reminders, all your old emails being searchable, contact list etc. was invaluable, but you get most of that on your phone nowadays. I actually 'don't' like some innovations. For instance my Outlook contacts now seem to be split between the old Contacts list, and and iCloud Contacts list, and it always seems to be that the contact I want is on the list I am NOT searching. Yes I am sure they could be integrated, and yes the iCloud sync thing is useful, but I liked it when things just worked without having to be a geeky hacker.

Email syncing between Outlook, iPhone, and iPad also irritates me because I hate having the iPhone email cluttered up with forum reminders and other spammy stuff. I unsubscribed from a heap of stuff when I got with the program and bought the iPhone last year, but they soon seem to mount up again.
