It's a popular and reputable service/platform. They provide great reports on hard drive reliability. I haven't used it personally.

Yes I have a backblaze account and im very happy, great value for money and the upload speeds have been good (not maxing my connection though).

The only downside to Backblaze is you have to connect all the hard drives you are backing up at least once every 30 days.

Someone who has used - can you please provide feedback , how does it work , how long for uploads / restoration. whats the cust service like etc.

You just install the program on your computer, you can set it to continuous backup, backup during certain hours or backup manually.
Initial upload took ages (3 months) but I had a lot of data, now its fine syncing new changes even on a ADSL connection.

Lucky I have never had to restore or deal with their customer service so can't speak to that.

Yes you can send Hard disks for the initial seed, you can also get them to send a hard disk if you need to restore.

Looks interesting and some fairly big names with positive things to say in their "reviews" section, unfortunately the lack of a linux client is a deal breaker for me, since I backup from my home server which runs linux. Guess I'll be sticking with crashplan for now.

One other thing to say for them, every quarter they post a blog with information about all their hard drive failure rates. Fantastic info if your looking to buy a hard drive.

I can't find the info on seeding either though, maybe I got confused with another provider.

I use IDrive.com - have done for a few years now and it works well. Supports linux as well although I have not used that.

Backblaze do not currently offer an option to send a drive in to seed (or at least, they didn't when we last looked at these providers early last year - I note some online reviews more recently claim you can but I still can't find it on their own site). Crashplan do, though. Although Backblaze will ship out a drive with your data on it for restoral, and you get to keep the drive, which is pretty cool.

I'm trialing Backblaze now. Taking a while to upload initial data, but that's to be expected. Quite unobtrusive and easy to use.

In their latest one they find that 3TB Seagate drives have had a 40% failure rate in the last 12 months. This seems entirely believable to me, because the two drives in my NAS are 3TB Seagate drives, and both of them failed within 15 months. Good thing they come with a 2 year warranty.
