Hey everyone,

This is just a probing question really... I currently have my xenserver homelab setup in a cupboard but my partner is wanting that space back.  We're in Auckland and have a raised sub-floor, with a brick base.  The area has plenty of ventilation as there are loads of air bricks.  If I got a standard sized small rack that I can mount on to the timber floor joists (for example) and protect from spider entry, are there are any consequences?  Temperature will be lower than the cupboard, and it is obviously protected from the weather.  Is humidity likely to be an issue even with a well cross ventilated area?  It seems to be relatively dry all year round, similar to our roof (concrete tile without the building wrap so lots of air passes through it.

Thoughts?  I'd be interested to see the lower temp range, as sometimes in winter the roof drops to around 5 degrees but would a rack when a set of servers running 24/7 stop condensation?

Cheers,

Chris

I would say go for it.  As long as it is dry you should be fine.
